Scrapbook contains clippings of local and national news, poetry and other stories from unidentified newspapers. Of note are clippings concerning the appointment of Rev. Whitehead as Bishop of the Pittsburgh Episcopal Diocese, a lengthy obituary of Mr. Jacob Painter in 1880, an article on cholera precautions in Pittsburgh and an article on the managers of Pittsburgh's great steel mills (including Major John Hancock of Black Diamond Steel Works). The scrapbook contains no information on Charlotte Hancock.

Whitehead, Cortlandt, 1842-1922

Cortlandt Whitehead (1842-1922), graduated from Yale in 1863 and was ordained Deacon in Trinity Church, Newark, N.J. in 1867. He left for mission work in Colorado in August 1867, where he served at St. Paul's Church in Central City, St. Mark's Chapel in Black Hawk, and Grace Church in Georgetown. In 1870 he became Rector of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was consecrated Bishop of Pittsburgh in 1882. From the description of Clergyman's private register, 1855...
